Sweat Off the Diamond (2009) | Foreward

Foreward

I have been a journalist since 1979. I have always been paid for journalism, so I guess that makes reporting my literary wife. For the same length of time I’ve written poetry. But except for a few publications which solicited work they heard me read in public, I never really made an effort to publish until 2008. So I guess that makes poetry my mistress; ain’t I sounding European!

I hosted and performed at more than 250 readings in Seattle, Idaho, Hawaii, and Ohio. During the late Eighties, Seattle was a hotbed of poetry readings. Now, the market has been saturated and overrun with spoken word and white rappers, or should I say rap artists, from the suburbs. You won’t find too many poems here, only one, mocking the police, and I wrote about a bitch or two but didn’t call them that in the poems.

Readings were wonderful because we got free booze and sometimes got laid. So dear readers, get busy.

Thanks for buying my lovely little book. Hopefully, there will be another.
